About Ruth’s House

Ruth’s House is a loving home for young single mothers that encourages and equips them to make positive changes in their lives, care for their children, and build their own futures. Through a wide range of support services, including classes, counseling, mentorship, and consistent support, Ruth’s House helps women build the skills they need to live confidently and independently.

Ruth’s House is...

New.

We opened the doors to our home in 2024, and we invite you to partner with us as we introduce new programs and serve young single moms in our community.

A vision born from personal experience.

Our founder, Jeanne Korman, experienced the challenges of being a single mother who didn’t know where to turn for support. Now, years later, she is creating the space she needed when her children were young.

Meeting a significant need in our community.

Nearly 38% of Connecticut women experience some sort of domestic violence, sexual violence, or stalking from an intimate partner during their lifetimes. In addition, the national poverty rate for children in single-parent families was triple that of children in two-parent families. There are women and children in our community that are in desperate need of a safe, supportive place.

Now, I am more confident. I feel like I don’t have to be in a bad relationship anymore. I am so much better than that, and I deserve so much better than that. I now know the signs and what to look for, what’s right and what’s not right. I feel powerful.

Changing families’ lives.

Two years ago, our team met Julie — a young mom in a dangerous relationship with nowhere to go. For months, Julie lived with Jeanne and experienced what it was like to live in a supportive environment. She was encouraged to finish her education and work hard; she learned how to parent her young son, Jayden, well; and she benefitted from having a stable, safe place to call home. Julie now lives on her own and is on her way to becoming a registered dietitian.

In her words, “Now, I am more confident. I feel like I don’t have to be in a bad relationship anymore. I am so much better than that, and I deserve so much better than that. I now know the signs and what to look for, what’s right and what’s not right. I feel powerful.”

Our goal is to help many more women like Julie — women who need reminding just how brave, talented, valued, and beloved they are. We invite you to join us as we bring this vision to life.
