We Choose to Challenge You

International Women’s Day, celebrated across the world on March 8, is a day to highlight the varied accomplishments of women. This year’s theme “Choose to Challenge” puts forth a challenge to us all—to recognize and address the structural barriers to success women continue to face today.

At Ruth’s House we believe in the intrinsic value of each and every woman. Our mission is to create a safe place where young single moms can find individualized support, resources, education, and more. As the number of single mothers in the U.S. continues to grow it’s important to understand and meet their daily needs as parents.

Our team and unique approach shows single moms that they are not alone.

Ruth’s House provides a loving and safe environment that equips at-risk single mothers to make positive changes in their lives, care for their children, and build their own futures. Single mothers face unique challenges, including heightened vulnerability to economic hardship and mental health issues. At Ruth’s house we help women face their individual challenges head-on—providing the counseling, career training and financial education they need.

A network of support also is an essential part of parenthood; all mothers need one. We strive to provide single moms with the care and community they deserve, helping them access greater stability for themselves and their children. We build families.

Research shows that mothers with strong social support networks have more positive relationships with their children, lower rates of depression and anxiety, and higher rates of self-efficacy. They are also more resilient, using effective coping strategies to manage stress and setbacks.

Our team used my experience raising five children as a single mother and input from Julie, the first mother to make her way through Ruth’s House, to discern the services that are most helpful to single moms to aid them in living out their God-given destinies. Our goal is to equip women to live life independently, on their own terms. Throughout their time at Ruth’s house they are given the opportunity to discover who they are—as women, as mothers, and as members of a community.

In addition to specialized career training and financial education, our vision for Ruth’s House includes nutrition support and parenting classes. When women take parenting classes children often demonstrate stronger academic performance and higher emotional intelligence. Women can also elect to participate in counseling and discipleship. The communal nature of Ruth’s House allows women to share their parenting experiences with peers who understand their experiences. Together mothers learn and grow.

When women find their full potential their children have greater opportunities, reinforcing a cycle of positive change and building a brighter future for all of us.

Be a part of this cycle of love and growth by investing in the future of Ruth’s House. Your gift helps us bring our vision to life.

We’re asking you to “Choose to Challenge” the status quo; make a one-time or recurring gift to support young single moms in our community.
